In preparation for exporting lychee to Japan, DoARD collaborated with the districts of Luc Ngan and Tan Yen and the Plan Protection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to survey and grant production unit code (PUC) as required by the Japanese partner.
To date, Japan has approved 19 PUCs with 103 hectares and involvement of 107 households. DoARD also provided farmers with several training courses and guidance on caring and pesticide preventing techniques and recording production diary.
Besides, DoARD worked with the Plan Protection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to invite enterprises to join in lychee consumption linkage to export to Japan. So far, 3 enterprises have surveyed to ink the contracts.
At the discussion session, the participants highly evaluated quality of lychee this year with fruiting rate of over 95 percent. However, they noted this year would be hard for lychee consumption due to complicated developments of Covid-19 outbreak.
According to DoIT’s Director Tran Quang Tan, the department has constructed scenarios for lychee consumption when the pandemic is controlled or in increasingly complicated developments. Domestic market and China must be still key markets. Early ripen lychee is scheduled for harvesting from 20 May to 5 June and main crop lychee will be harvested from 10 June.
If the pandemic is not controlled, lychee price and consumption will fall. Hence, it is essential to improve lychee processing and preservation measures such as drying and extracting juice. In addition, it is necessary to carry out online promotion and send advertising messages about lychee products.
