The urban network are developed in a sustainable way with a long-term vision. The development space changes from "commune scale" to "entire district scale", which is gradually completed in associated with the arrangement of administrative boundaries. It helps create a premise to form a number of large urban areas with pervasive power to lead the development of the sub-region in accordance with the direction set by the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress.
To date, the urban population rate of Bac Giang has reached nearly 24 percent, the urban area after arrangement, expansion and new establishment covers more than 337 square kilometers, up more than 2.5 times compared to the figure in 2016.
The province currently has 17 urban areas, including 1 second grade urban area while the remaining are fourth and fifth grade urban areas. Of which, there are two newly established urban areas of grade five, namely Phuong Son and Bac Ly.
According to Vu Danh Tuyen, Head of the Architectural Planning Division (Department of Construction), the urban scale will continue expanding, the speed of urbanization will develop strongly in a more synchronous and modern direction.
Recently, the Prime Minister has approved for the policy allowing Bac Giang to establish and adjust 5 general urban construction planning projects including: expanded Bac Giang City; urban areas of Hiep Hoa, Chu, Viet Yen and Lang Giang.
So far, the urban areas of Bac Giang city, Viet Yen and Chu have had their planning tasks approved by the Prime Minister. The projects are under completion after approval at local levels.

In addition, the coverage rate of subdivision planning and detailed planning of the province has increased and is currently higher than the national average.
Urban infrastructure is strongly developed with many highlights
Along with planning, framework infrastructure projects and social infrastructure projects of urban areas to connect urban areas in the province have received due investment. During the 2021-2025 period, the province's total public investment capital for urban connection framework infrastructure hit more than 40 trillion VND (1.7 billion USD).
Currently, several transportation systems have been completed and constructed to connect Bac Giang with neighboring provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Lang Son, Bac Ninh together with transport facilities to link the provincial localities and urban areas, creating new highlights.
The most obvious change is Bac Giang City with a series of projects such as: Renovating and expanding Hung Vuong Street overpass; building A Lu bridge; upgrading Nguyen Van Cu street; constructing overpass of Xuong Giang road to Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Tran Quang Khai street... which were completed and put into use. The appearance of Bac Giang's core urban area seems to put on new clothes.
Urban planning, management and development in the province have achieved many important results recently, creating favorable conditions to develop the socio-economy, industrial and service sectors in the area.
This proved that the provincial resolutions and plans on urban development have accurately evaluated and forecasted the situation, limitations and shortcomings as well as worked out tasks and solutions to effectively implement the goals.
