Bac Giang-Vinh Long art exchange: Southern folk music, love duet singing, ceremonial singing charm audiences

(BGO) – The Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Giang and Vinh Long provinces jointly held an art exchange at the Convention Centre of Bac Giang on the evening of March 22.

The event was attended by Tran Van Ron, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Vinh Long provincial Party Committee and Head of the NA Deputies’ Delegation of Vinh Long province; Nguyen Van Quang, Chairman of the Vinh Long provincial People’s Committee; Bui Van Nghiem, Vice Chairman of the People’s Council, and leaders of departments, agencies and enterprises in Vinh Long province.

Delegates from Bac Giang province were Bui Van Hai, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Than Van Khoa, Standing Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Van Linh, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; vice chairpersons of the provincial People’s Council and People’s Committee, leaders of departments, agencies and organisations and crowds of local people.

At the event, over 50 artists from the two localities staged myriads of songs and dances as well as delivered performances of musical instruments that belong to traditional arts like southern folk music (don ca tai tu), ceremonial singing (ca tru), love duet singing (quan ho) and chau van singing (hat chau van). Artists from Vinh Long impressed Bac Giang audiences with ancient songs like “Luu Thuy”, “Vinh Long song nuoc huu tinh”, “Da co hoai lang”, “Co ban” and “Hon thieng song nui”… Meanwhile, the hosts brought to the event the standout performances of “Phung quan te hoi”, “Moi nuoc, moi trau”, “Tray hoi xuan”, “Mieu noi” and “Co doi thuong ngan”…

Love duet singing by Bac Giang artists.

Love duet singing and ceremonial singing of ancient Kinh Bac (now Bac Giang and Bac Ninh) and southern folk music were recognised by the UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The art exchange aimed to share experience in preserving and promoting cultural heritage values. It also offered a chance for artists of the two localities to meet and improve the performing capacity, contributing to popularising local unique art forms to tourists. 

Earlier, the Vinh Long delegation offered incense and visited Uncle Ho’s orchid garden in Luc Ngan district.
