Bac Giang’s key sports to conquer National Sports Festival

Updated: 15:45, 28/09/2018
(BGO) – The eighth National Sports Festival 2018 is a high-performance playground for the most prominent faces of Vietnamese sports. Thanks to the positive shift in training strategy and strong “driving forces”, the Bac Giang’s high-performance sports are running toward the event with a new belief and expectation.

A necessary “shift”

Looking back to the history of the provincial sports at the National Sports Festivals, it can be obviously found there have been positive movements in investment thinking and training the athletes of high performance. At 6 festivals from 1990 to 2010, the province mostly gained achievements in traditional sports such as traditional wrestling, rod pushing and shuttlecock kicking. Particularly, in 2006 and 2010 events, these three sports helped the local athletes win 20 out of 27 gold medals.

Nguyen Thi Oanh (No.624) and Pham Tien San (No.08) promises bringing gold medals to Bac Giang’s track and field team.

However, Bac Giang provincial sports sector has switched to focus the investment in the modern games in the competition system of ASIAD and international Olympiad since 2010 to keep up with the general development trend. Accordingly, the badminton, track and field, chess and wushu have been focused on the priority in human being, facilities and equipment.

The timely and necessary shift has helped renew the high-performance sports and bring back glorious victories in three out of four above mentioned sports at the 2014 National Sports Festival, including 3 gold medals for women’s singles, women’s doubles and women’s team in badminton; second ranking for women’s team in standard chess and blitz chess and another gold medal in track and field.

Kim Phung has enough skill and manner together with Bac Giang’s chess team to conquer the next sports festival.

Apart from the feat at the 2014 event, these games have remained high position in the national and international arena for nearly 4 consecutive years. For example, Vu Thi Trang has won numerous medals in the open badminton tourneys in Vietnam, Laos, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand or in Sea Games. Besides, track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh has risen up as a bright star not only in the domestic course but also in the South East Asia playground and ASIAD.

Specifying key sports

With the shift in development orientation of high-performance sports, Bac Giang’s sports have gained certain successes, especially in the basic group of Olympiad sports including track and field, badminton and chess that are defined as three “driving forces” to bring new ranking to the local sports in the upcoming 2018 festival.

These games have equally qualified athletes with the stable manner and rich experiences. For instance in track and field, Nguyen Thi Oanh is now at her peak of strength and spirit to conquer the festival after winning many glories in the regional and continental arena. Her bronze medal at 3,000m hurdles at ASIAD 18 and current champion of women’s 1,500m and 5,000m at the SEA Games prove that it is not so difficult for Oanh to compete in the three contents in the domestic playground.

In women’s doubles event, Nguyen Thi Sen and Vu Thi Trang are the top players in Vietnam.

Though the heel injury is not fully recovered, Pham Tien San is still the first runner on men’s 3,000 m hurdles which brought him the champion title.

Meanwhile, the highly stable manner of Vo Thi Kim Phung, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung together with the experiences of Nguyen Thi Thuy and young strength of Hoang Thi Hai Anh and Doan Thi Van Anh will be a reliable guarantee for Bac Giang’s chess team before the National Sports Festival.

Regarding the badminton, before the strong rising of many domestic young players, Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen still firmly stand as the leading player of the nation with their experiences and high levels. Thus, women’s singles and doubles will not have much fierce competitiveness. Also, in the team category, the quick professional grown-up of Tran Thi Phuong Thuy, Nguyen Ngoc Lan or Than Van Anh creates a more balance in the forces to Bac Giang’s badminton.

Apart from the three “driving forces”, many sports are potential to be the sharp attack and create the surprise in the next event. For example, wushu artist Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (who participated in ASIAD 18) is current Asian champion or female wrestler Than Thi Anh is considered as the most outstanding nominee for the gold medal at the festival after affirming her name in several domestic and foreign tourneys such as national championships, national cup and South East Asia championships.

In spite of the big rearrangement at the shuttlecock kicking, the faces of Nguyen Anh Tuan, Dinh Van Duc and Nguyen Thi Dao are fully capable of making the feat.

Therefore, Bac Giang’s sports will move toward this festival with several key games that help build up the confidence to conquer the biggest national sports event.
