Bac Ninh opens qualifying round of Robocon 2026

BAC NINH - The organizing committee of the Bac Ninh Robocon 2026 competition on March 8 officially launched the qualifying round at the provincial Gymnasium.

The event themed “Bac Ninh takes flight” was attended by representatives of provincial departments and agencies, educational institutions, businesses and technology organizations, along with 602 competing teams.

Robocon Bac Ninh 2026 is designed with two main tournaments: the Bac Ninh Robocon competition for youth within the province and the expanded Bac Ninh Robocon Open, which will welcome participants from both inside and outside the province. Registration for the open competition is scheduled to begin in April, with matches expected to take place in July 2026.

Launched in October 2025, 879 teams registered to take part in this year event, 602 of which qualified for the preliminary round with 1,763 members representing 271 educational institutions and technology centers across Bac Ninh province.

Representatives of the organizing committee visit and encourage team members competing in the qualifying round.

According to the organizing committee, the qualifying round is being conducted in a hybrid format combining both in-person and online participation. Teams are divided into three groups, A, B and C, with each group given 150 minutes to complete the competition tasks.

During the contest, teams use Robot Simulation software to complete a series of technical challenges. The tasks require participants to design, assemble and programme robots based on specific problem statements provided by the organizers.

The organizing committee presents awards to winners of the “Frame Design – Lighting up the Robocon 2026 Spirit” contest.

Competitors must also optimize their robots’ strategies and operational capabilities while ensuring accuracy, stability and creativity in solving technical scenarios.

The final score for each team is determined by the highest result achieved during multiple runs of their robot simulation. Judges assess performance based on technical accuracy, problem-solving ability and the effectiveness of the robot’s design and programmeming.

The organizing committee awards certificates to instructors who completed the training programme for Robocon teams.

At the end of the qualifying stage, the organizing committee will select 72 teams with the highest valid scores to advance to the final round.

The number of finalists has increased by 24 teams compared with the 2025 competition, reflecting the expanding scale and popularity of the event. Each group will contribute 24 teams to the final stage which are scheduled to take place in early April.

An the same day, the organizing committee presented awards to winners of the “Frame Design – Lighting up the Robocon 2026 Spirit” contest and granted certificates to instructors who completed the Robocon training programmeme.
