Bac Ninh to invest in five transport projects linking with Thai Nguyen

Updated: 15:55, 06/02/2026

BAC NINH – The northern province of Bac Ninh plans to invest in five transport infrastructure projects to strengthen connectivity with neighboring Thai Nguyen province under a regional cooperation framework for the 2026–2030 period.

The projects are part of a memorandum of understanding on regional linkage signed between Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen and Phu Tho provinces, aimed at improving inter-provincial transport networks, expanding development space and boosting economic integration across the northern midland and Red River Delta regions.

According to the plan, the largest project is the construction of the Ring Road V section running through Bac Ninh province, with a total length of about 51.3 km.

The route will start at the intersection with the Noi Bai - Bac Ninh expressway, run parallel to National Highway 37, cross the Luc Nam River downstream of Cam Ly Bridge, bypass Bac Giang ward, and connect with National Highway 1 (the Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway) in Tan Dinh commune.

The road will then continue parallel to National Highway 37 before linking with the Ring Road V section in Thai Nguyen province.

The total investment for this project is estimated at more than 34 trillion VND (1.3 billion USD), scheduled for implementation during the 2026–2030 period.

Another project involves building a connecting road between Ring Road V in the Hanoi Capital Region (Thai Nguyen section) and Provincial Road 294 in Bac Ninh. The road will start at Provincial Road 294 and end at the Ring Road V section already developed in Thai Nguyen.

The project is currently under preparation, with construction expected to begin in June 2026 and completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. Total investment is estimated at 51.8 billion VND.

Bac Ninh also plans to upgrade and widen two sections of National Highway 37 to improve cross-provincial traffic. The first section, from km91+400 to km96+00, will be about 5 km long with a roadbed width of 12 metres, connecting Provincial Road 261C with the Thai Nguyen border. This project is estimated to cost 170 billion VND and will be implemented during 2026–2028.

The second section of National Highway 37 will run from Yen The commune to the Thai Nguyen border, with a length of about 15 km and a roadbed width of 12 metres. The route will start at the intersection with Provincial Road 292 and connect with the corresponding section in Thai Nguyen. Total investment is estimated at 530 billion VND, also scheduled for 2026–2028.

The fifth project is a flood-control dyke combined with a storm prevention road linking the former Thai Son commune with Phu Binh district in Thai Nguyen province. The road will run from the former Thai Son ferry terminal to Ring Road V in Thai Nguyen, with a total length of about 6.5 km and a cross-section width of 10 metres. The project is expected to cost 350 billion VND and will be implemented between 2026 and 2030.

Provincial authorities said Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen will closely coordinate during project implementation to ensure seamless and synchronized connections between the road networks of the two provinces.

The development of inter-provincial transport infrastructure is expected not only to improve connectivity but also to create new growth momentum and expand development space for the broader region.
