Caring for workers’ life on year end occasion

As the Lunar New Year comes closer the working atmosphere at Ha Bac Export Garment Joint Stock Company (Ha Bac Garment) in Hong Thai commune, Viet Yen district gets more excited. Though it is more than one month to come the most important national holiday, on December 9 Ha Bac Garment announced the decision about Tet holiday and bonus.

Each labourer will be given an average Tet bonus of 10.5 million VND (454 USD) per person, up more than 1 million VND comparing to the 2019 bonus.
Besides, Bac Giang New Wing Interconnect Technology Company Limited (under Foxcorn Technology Group) in Van Trung Industrial Park is one of the enterprises having the biggest number of laborers in the province with more than 19,000 people. Since operation in 2016, the enterprise has remained stable labor relation.
On the 2020 Lunar New Year (Year of the Rat), to ensure 100 percent of laborers enjoying Tet holiday, the provincial Labor Federation (PLF) instructed the grass root trade unions to recommend the enterprises to have plan to pay for the salary and Tet bonus to the laborers. At the same time, in the programme “Affectionate Spring – Reunion Tet Holiday”, PLF will mobilize expense to present Tet gifts, ticket to 100 workers living in far distance and difficult circumstance; support to build 5 “Trade Union Cosy Houses”; organize booths to sell products at preferential prices for the workers on the Tet occasion. |
The result was gained thanks to the regular dialogue (monthly) to the laborers to timely handle and solve their questions. Similar to last year, each worker will be rewarded one month of basic salary as Tet bonus depending on the emulation evaluation, ranging from 4.5 – 10 million VND (194 – 432 USD) per person per month.
The due attention to the salary and bonus policy is not only the encouragement but also a good method to keep the laborers.
Actively avoiding the conflict
According to the statistic of Division of Salary – Social Insurance, Department of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA), the average laborers’ Tet bonus of 200 businesses reporting to the DoLISA reached nearly 5 million VND per person in 5 recent years, 50 percent of which promised to give the 13rd month salary to the laborer with the amount of 1 – 5 million VND per person.
It proved that the enterprises have pay due attention to caring for the laborers, especially on Tet occasion.
“Tet bonus is not the compulsory regulation in the Law of Labor. However, any labor expects for a bonus at the year end season after a hard working year. Thus, basing on the production and business result, the enterprises should spend a part of the profit to give the Tet bonus to them, helping harmonise the mutual benefit and labor relation. When the laborers are encouraged, they will further dedicate to the company to contribute to boost up the efficiency of production and business, ” said Nguyen The Dung, Vice Director of DoLISA.

So far, few businesses have reported about Tet bonus to the sectors of labor and trade union. However, the labor relation is stable.
Playing its role, the provincial Labor Federation instructed the grass roots trade union officers to regularly grasp the situation to know the laborers’ expectation and wish, hence recommending the employer toward timely settlement to avoid the conflict on this occasion.
At the same time, they should coordinate with the competent agencies to supervise the businesses’ salary adjustment in line with the Governmental regulation to ensure the legitimate right of the laborers.
