Cashless Day to feature a wide range of activities

Cashless Day 2021 is scheduled to take place on June 16 with a wide range of activities aiming at raising public awareness of non-cash payment.

The information was released by the State Bank of Vietnam, in coordination with Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper, and the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) on June 14.

The event also aims to contribute to achieving the goals set by the national financial inclusion strategy 2025, with a vision towards 2030.

Following its success in 2019 and 2020, Cashless Day 2021 will be held with the support of banks, credit institutions, payment intermediaries, Fintech, and manufacturing, export and service enterprises.

Data from the State Bank of Vietnam shows that the number of non-cash transactions has been on the rise in Vietnam during the pandemic. Internet payments increased 65.9% in volume and 31.2% in value year-on-year in the first four months of 2021.

Mobile and QR Code payments have been seeing much higher year-on-year growth, with increases of 86.3% in volume and 123.1% in value, and 95.7% in volume and 181.5% in value, respectively.
