The highlight of the 2024 Bac Giang Culture – Tourism Week will be a procession of the memorial tablets of the three founders of Truc Lam Buddhist Zen sect from Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in Yen Dung district to Thuong (Upper) Pagoda in Tay Yen Tu, Son Dong district.

Venerable Thich Thanh Vinh, head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s chapter in Yen Dung district and deputy head of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, said that for the procession to be held solemnly in accordance with Buddhist rituals, the Organising Committee of the Bac Giang Culture - Tourism Week has assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s provincial chapter to prepare related tasks.

At 6:30 a.m. on the 12th day of the first lunar month - the opening day of the week, the pagoda will hold a ceremony to report to the Truc Lam Zen sect founders at the Vinh Nghiem ancestral site and then carry out the procession of their memorial tablets to Thuong Pagoda in the Tay Yen Tu Spiritual - Ecological Tourist Area, he said.

Son Dong will host key activities of the Bac Giang Culture - Tourism Week. Tong Thi Huong Giang, Vice Chairwoman of the district People's Committee, said that with experience in jointly organising important activities of the week in previous years, the district People's Committee will base on the province’s plan to soon issue a implementation coordination plan, assigning specific tasks to each member, subcommittee, and relevant communes and towns.

The district's organising board has assigned Tay Yen Tu Services Joint Stock Company to coordinate with the district's relevant units to ensure the most favourable conditions for the activities of the Culture – Tourism Week, with special emphasis on all-round preparation for the procession welcoming, incense offering, and opening ceremonies, she said.

Within the framework of this year's week, Lang Giang district will organise the Forest Opening Festival on February 20 (the 11th day of the first lunar month) at Lord Then temple in Huong Son commune. A new feature is that this year the festival will be held at district level to implement the district and province's tourism development policy.

A sloong hao singing festival - a long-standing special festival of people in highland communes in Luc Ngan district will be also organised at district level. To attract tourists, organisers plan to hold the opening ceremony on the afternoon of the 11th day of the first lunar month at the centers of Tan Son and Phong Van communes. The district People's Committee has completed the final stages such as finalising the opening ceremony script and assigning the district's communes, towns and specialised units to coordinate in reenacting a traditional countryside market space in Tan Son commune. The space will feature 11 booths of Luc Ngan highland communes selling products of indigenous people and displaying items serving the production of highlanders; four food stalls; and areas for cultural exchanges and folk games.

Do Tuan Khoa, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and deputy head of the Organising Committee of the Bac Giang Culture - Tourism Week, said that through the annual event, the provincial People's Committee wishes to raise awareness and responsibility of authorities at all levels, sectors and ethnic people in preserving and promoting fine traditional cultural identities and natural resources to develop tourism.

This is also an opportunity to introduce and promote unique cultural values and specific types of spiritual, ecological, community, sports, and agricultural tourism products to attract investment in tourism development in Bac Giang province, he noted.
