Works on display include images and documentaries on different genres of Vietnamese folk paintings, including Kim Hoang, Hang Trong, Dong Ho, and glass painting, among others.

A fashion show introducing 27 children’s outfits inspired from Kim Hoang folk paintings will be held on the evening of October 24 as part of the exhibition.

Visitors can also learn about how folk paintings and traditional patterns can be applied to household products, decorations and daily utensils.

The exhibits were selected from 300 entries send to the ‘Initiatives from Kim Hoang Folk Paintings’ contest for children, which was launched by the Hanoi Ceramic Museum in June 2018.

The entries included more than 200 paintings, nearly 30 fashion designs, and 45 designs for postcards, handbags and scarfs, among others.

The exhibition will run until November 10 at the Temple of Literature’s Centre for Scientific and Cultural Activities, 58 Quoc Tu Giam street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.

Inspired from her passion for Hang Trong folk painting, designer Trinh Thu Trang established S-River, a group of youngsters who share a common interest in ancient Vietnamese culture, and launched ‘Hoa Sac Viet’ Vietnamese Colours and Patterns) project with the aim of stimulating a revival of public interest in the old traditional folk genre.

 

Painting by Vietnamese artist sold for record price

A silk painting by Vietnamese master artist Nguyen Phan Chanh (1892-1984), one of the leading painters of Vietnamese contemporary fine arts, has been sold at over 853,000 USD (6.7 million HKD) at an auction by Christie’s Hong Kong.
