Fifth "Dreams on the wing" programme for poor children in Bac Giang in 2020: Journey of kind hearts

(BGO) - "Dreams on the wing" for poor children is an annual programme that has been jointly held by the provincial Child Rights Protection Association, Bac Giang Newspaper, and the provincial Study Promotion Association since 2016. The programme has received the support and companionship of hundreds of philanthropic units, businesses, organisations and individuals inside and outside the province, thereby helping many poor children have the opportunity to go to school.

Giving strength to children to go to school

On September 13, Le Anh Duong, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, presented gifts of the programme to poor children in Tan Yen and Hiep Hoa districts.

He appreciated the efforts of the programme’s Organizing Committee in implementing meaningful activities to help poor children in the province have more conditions to study. At the same time, he wished the children to use the gifts effectively, turning it into motivation to become good children and excellent students.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded 75 scholarships, each including cash, bicycle, helmet, backpack, notebooks, pens and milk, to disadvantaged children in the two districts.

On the same day, the organizers awarded 88 gifts, each worth from 1 to 2.4 million VND in cash or bicycle and others such as schoolbag, helmet, masks, notebooks and milk for underprivileged children in the districts of Luc Nam, Lang Giang, Yen The and Viet Yen.

On this occasion, many collectives and individuals also gave meaningful gifts to poor children. The Than Nhan Trung Study Promotion Fund (Viet Yen district) donated 100 million VND, 24 bicycles and 24 lamps to poor students in the district. The Yen The district People's Committee presented bicycles to some poor students. Twins Le Viet Duy and Le Anh Duy, students at the Voi Secondary School No. 2 (Lang Giang district) used their savings worth 1 million VND to buy gifts for poor friends.

Over the past 5 years, the programme has been accompanied by hundreds of organizations, businesses, charity groups, and philanthropists inside and outside the province. Each year, about 150 disadvantaged children receive scholarships and gifts. In 2020 alone, the figure is 251.

Joining hands for poor children

As a companion to the programme from its early days, every year, the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank)’s branch in Bac Giang province has encouraged its staff to donate 20-25 bicycles to poor students. This year alone, the Trade Union of the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and its Bac Giang branch donated 52 bicycles to poor students in Tan Yen district.

The programme is also a trustworthy address that connects many charity groups and clubs, and individual philanthropists inside and outside the province, typically Hanoi Love Group, the “Sharing the same heart” club in Hiep Hoa district; Tuong Vi (Bac Giang city), Le Khac Duc (Viet Yen district)...

As head of the programme’s Organizing Committee, Duong Thi Loi, Chairwoman of the provincial Child Rights Protection Association, expressed her deep gratitude to the donors. This year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the programme was not organized concentratedly as in previous years, but the number of scholarships and gifts increased significantly with more than 400 million VND (17, 260 USD) donated by over 40 organizations and individuals inside and outside the province. All the money and gifts were handed over to 251 poor children and students in 10 districts and city.

Each gift contained the affection and sharing of kind hearts to poor children and students. It was also the result of the joint efforts of the programme’s Organizing Committee and units, businesses, organizations and individuals with the desire to bring more study opportunities to poor children for a better life in the future.
