Hanoi outlines Covid-19 prevention plan for SEA Games

Updated: 11:02, 09/05/2022
The Hanoi government has unveiled a plan to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and protect the health of athletes, coaches, referees and other participants of the 31st SEA Games, scheduled to formally open on May 12.

Under the plan, those testing positive for the virus or contracting Covid-19 will not take part in competitions or serve the Games and are subject to isolation and treatment according to guidelines.

Hanoi's medical sector is ready for SEA Games.

Close contacts of infections will be tested and can continue to compete or serve if their results are negative. Testing is only conducted for those who are suspected of having contracted the virus.

Sports delegations will travel in a closed loop from their accommodations to the training and competition venues, and vice versa.

Public spectators are not required to test for Covid-19 but have to wear masks, and sanitise their hands, and mass gatherings should be minimised.

During the competitions, zones must be established and entry controls are to be implemented to minimise contact between different groups.

Disinfection is carried out inside and outside competition areas one day before the events take place, while positions of frequent contact will be disinfected twice a day during the competition.

Depending on the Covid-19 situation, Games events may be held completely behind a closed door or with limited or full spectators.
