HCM City’s youths donate blood to fight coronavirus disease

A blood donation day was held among Ho Chi Minh City’s young people on February 16 to address blood shortage facing hospitals due to the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Fears of COVID-19 infection have discouraged people from participating in blood drives. Many university students, a major proportion of blood donors, have not yet returned to major cities during the prolonged school closure, worsening the situation.

The event was expected to attract 1,700 donors, mainly workers and those from armed forces in the city’s 19 districts.
At the blood donation venue, antiseptic solution was provided for donors. Along with normal procedures, donors got body temperature measurement, washed their hands with santinizers and wore face masks.
The Embassy of the US in Vietnam launched a blood donation campaign on January 10. As many as 269 people registered to donate their blood at the annual event, the eighth of its kind.
Thousands of people participated in the Red Spring Festival - Red Sunday blood donation festival held in Lang Son city on January 4.

established the Provisory Blood Donation Team (PBDT) to implement the VBD campaign
on Tet occasion and Red Spring Festival in 2020 as well as recover the blood shortage
situation.

December 29 at Bac Giang city under
the joint collaboration of the Steering Board for voluntary blood donation (VBD)
in Bac Giang province, some organizations and agencies.
About 50,000 units of blood are expected to be collected during the 12th “Red Sunday”, a blood donation campaign, which began in Hanoi on December 22.
