Israeli expert introduces lychee preservation technology

At the meeting, representative of the provincial Department of Science and Technology (DoST) briefed the delegates on the local production and consumption of several farm produce. Particularly, lychee yields about 120 – 200,000 tonnes of fruits on a yearly basis. The local authority has applied some preservation technologies whose results still fail to meet the requirement.

The Israeli experts introduced the frozen lychee preservation technology that allows harvesting the fruits 15-30 days earlier. After that, the lychee will be kept at the temperature of 2-4 degree Celcius together with a product to make it ripe gradually. Under this process, the lychee can remain fresh for 1.5 to 3 months with the original sweet taste.

After discussion, it was finalized that the Israeli expert delegation will send the documentation of lychee frozen preservation to the DoST for further research in the upcoming time. In case the technology is found suitable with the requirement, the DoST will consult the provincial People’s Committee on the coordination opportunity.
