Accordingly, each member donates an amount of money equivalent to a bag of Hoang Thach cement. The association has divided the levels of contribution according to each year depending on the ranks. Specifically, veterans who are non-commissioned officers, soldiers and professional soldiers, and members without salaries contribute 15 kg or more.
Recently, we had the opportunity to return to Gieng village, Tien Luc commune and could not help being surprised by the change here. The road to the village has been widened and concreted, with a median strip and lighting systems along the two sides. The works are built with contribution of the veterans and people of Gieng village. Typically, veteran Le Van Bac donated over 345 million VND (14,890 USD) to buy bricks, sand and stones and build electricity lines.
In Chi Miu village, Huong Son commune, veteran Tran Van Dan has made many contributions to building the homeland. With the wish to help local children study in a spacious school, over the past 4 years, Dan has donated more than 1.7 billion VND (73,370 USD) to build the gate and multi-purpose house of the Viet Huong Secondary School. He also provided more than 400 million VND (17,265 USD) for the construction of concrete roads and electricity lines.
According to the statistics of the district Veterans’ Association, since the movement was launched, the association has donated nearly 5 billion VND (215,670 USD), more than 116,000 sq.m of all kinds of land and tens of thousands of workdays to expand roads, build cultural houses and install electric lighting systems...
Being responsible, exemplary
Not only contributing money and workdays to build the homeland, to improve the lives of members, contributing to fulfilling the income criterion, the district Veterans’ Association has stepped up an emulation movement to help each other in economic development.
Responding to the “Veterans join hands to build new-style rural areas” movement, veterans in the district have donated nearly 5 billion VND (215,670 USD), more than 116,000 sq.m of all kinds of land and tens of thousands of workdays to expand roads, build cultural houses and install electric lighting systems. |
Veteran Nguyen Van Dau from Yen My commune, despite being a wounded soldier, still bravely joined his children to open a mechanical workshop and then establish the Thong Nhat Trading and Services Joint Stock Company, creating stable jobs for more than 120 workers (many of them are children of veterans and demobilized soldiers) with income ranging from 5 to 10 million VND per person per month.
In particular, from the movement to develop the economy and help each other to get rich, 63.2 percent of over 15,500 members have good or higher living standards and only 1.03 percent are poor.
The members have also actively participated in ensuring order and security with the model "Security surveillance camera". The model was piloted in Yen My commune and now it has been expanded to all communes and townships. More than 200 cameras have been installed in "sensitive" areas. As a result, the police force had grounds to investigate, discover and prevent many robberies, thus maintaining security and order at the grassroots level.
It can be affirmed that in communes meeting the new-style rural area standards, there are imprints and practical contributions of the veterans. Nguyen Manh Hiep, Chairman of the district Veterans’ Association, stressed that in the coming time, the association will continue to launch the movement "Veterans join hands to build new-style rural areas" among its members, thereby maintaining and further improving the quality of new-style rural area criteria.
In addition, it will proactively survey and select models and jobs suitable to the local capabilities and strengths to register with the Party Committees and authorities for implementation.
