Latrine project donated by Latter Day Saint Charities inaugurated

(BGO) – A ceremony was held on September 17 in Secondary School in Dong Viet commune by the People’s Committee in Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province to inaugurate and hand over the latrine project donated by Latter Day Saint Charities (LDSC).  

LDSC is the humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its purpose is to relieve suffering, foster self-reliance and provide opportunities for service. LDSC follows the admonition of Jesus Christ to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, take in the stranger, clothe the naked and visit the sick and afflicted.

The project was commenced in May 2019 with total cost of over 277 million VND (nearly 12,000 USD), 90 percent of which was non-refundable aid from LDSC and 10 percent was mobilized from the local budget.

The project’s completion helps improve the school latrine condition, improve the quality of studying environment to more than 260 students in new academic year.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Steven Holf, LDSC Country Director to Vietnam expressed his delight to accompany Bac Giang province in improving the environment sanitation to the educational establishments.

In the upcoming time, LDSC will pay more attention to the province with such activities of clean water supply, environmental sanitation and support of disabled people.

Since early this year, LDSC has provided the difficult localities in the province with 3 aids totally worth over 1 billion VND (43,100 USD) to build the latrine in Dong Lo Secondary School (Hiep Hoa district) and Dong Viet Secondary School (Yen Dung district) as well as equip the water filter system to 3 schools in Chu town (Luc Ngan district).
