Multi-terrain waste collection machine wins top prize at young volunteers’ creation contest

Overcoming over 1,000 ideas by other Vietnamese and foreign students, a smart device with the ability to collect garbage on the sea, ponds and canals as well as on the ground, by a group of students from the University of Da Nang, won the first prize at the "Volunteers’ Ideas" Contest 2019.

On May 31, the Vietnam National Union of Students held the contest’s final round in Hanoi, with the participation of ten individuals and groups who have overcome preliminary rounds spanning nearly two months.

Starting from April 10, the contest has received 1,046 ideas from 157 universities, institutes and colleges across the country and three ideas from Vietnamese students in Russia, Hungary and China. The best ideas from the contest will have the opportunity to be applied in the upcoming 2019 Summer Volunteer Campaign.

Over nearly four hours of vigorous competition, with high practical applicability, topicality and practical meaning to the environment, the smart device with the ability to collect garbage on sea, pond, canal and ground by Vo Anh Khoa, Tran Van Nhat, Truong Van Binh, Vo Van Khoa, Le Thanh Trai and Dinh Van Hiep from the University of Da Nang won the first prize with a reward of VND5 million and a budget of VND200 million to implement the idea.

Sharing about their unique idea, Vo Anh Khoa, the leader of the research group, said: "The device carries the enthusiasm of the whole group with the goal of reducing the amount of floating waste in the “most worth living city in Vietnam" in particular and all over the country in general. With high performance and flexible operation ability on the water and the ground, the equipment has been put into practice and has brought about positive results".

The organisers also awarded a second prize worth VND3 million and a fund for deploying worth VND100 million for the idea of ​​"Free English teaching for disadvantaged children in Quang Nam" by author Duong Quoc Bao, a Vietnamese student in China, as well as a third prize worth VND2 million plus a VND80 million deployment fund for the idea of ​​"IT application in mobilising and coordinating the blood banking system in Hai Phong", by Nguyen Tuan Anh from Hai Phong Medical University.

Along with that, seven consolation prizes, each worth VND1 million with funding of VND50 million, plus four team prizes for units with the highest number of contest ideas, worth VND3 million each, were also granted to the winners.
