The event saw the presence of Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong, President of the Vietnamese Journalists’ Association and Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper Thuan Huu, and Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, among 600 delegates.

A report at the conference stated that press agencies provided timely and comprehensive information on the politics and socio-economic situation of Vietnam and the world in 2018. They effectively performed the role as the organs of the Party and State and a trustworthy forum of the people, while affirming their position as an essential means of mass media for social life.

In particular, the press highlighted and asserted the political determination of the Party and State in the fight against corruption and wastefulness under the rule of “no prohibited zone and no exception in anti-corruption”.

Vietnamese press also promoted external information services and communication on the Vietnamese land and people as well as national achievements in the renewal process.

However, delegates pointed out inadequacies in 2018 including the spread of fake news and the slow reaction of the press to the actual situation, and others.

At the conference, delegates also put forth forecasts and key tasks for the press in 2019.

On the occasion, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education presented Certificates of Merit to Nhan Dan newspaper and 24 other collectives and individuals for their outstanding achievements in the press and communication work in 2018.
