Nearly 16,000 personnel join second parade drill for 80th National Day

Updated: 10:51, 06/08/2025

Nearly 16,000 officers and soldiers from units under the Ministries of National Defense and Public Security joined the second joint rehearsal for the military parade and march celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (Aug. 19, 1945 – 2025) and National Day (Sept. 2, 1945 – 2025) in Hanoi on Aug. 5.

Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), and head of the Subcommittee of Parade and Marching Organization under the Ministry of National Defense, presided over the rehearsal, which aimed to evaluate performance and draw lessons for future sessions.

Military and police personnel gather at the National Military Training Centre No. 4 in Hanoi, for the National Day parade rehearsal on July 17, 2025.

The joint rehearsal began with the traditional torch relay, followed by a flag-raising ceremony. Following the marching formations were military vehicles and specialized police vehicles.

The event featured modern weapons and equipment, including tanks, armored vehicles, missiles, artillery, radar systems, and specialized military gear for electronic warfare, engineering, communications, and chemical units.

Many of these were developed by Vietnam's defense industry, such as the Truong Son missile system, XCB-01 infantry fighting vehicle, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and radar systems. The display aims to show the mobility and high combat readiness of the VPA.

A variety of specialized equipment from the People’s Public Security forces was showcased, including anti-terrorism combat vehicles, mobile command vehicles, armored bulletproof vehicles, underwater combat vehicles, multi-purpose tactical support vehicles, and anti-riot vehicles.

Commending the forces for their dedication despite the extremely hot weather, Nghia noted that the second joint rehearsal shows significant improvement over the first. He stressed that this is a meaningful political and social event, long anticipated by the Party, State, and people at home and abroad.

Given the significance and scale of the celebration, military and public security agencies and units have thoroughly grasped and seriously implemented training programs, ensuring tight organization and discipline in preparing marching formations, he said.

The military parade and march has 18 stationary and 43 marching formations, including seven female military and two female police ones.
