Ngo Van Soai saves 4 people with organ donation after death

(BGO)- “A lot of people criticized me when I decided to donate my husband’s organs, but I think it should be done to save many others after he passes away”.

This is sharing of Nguyen Thi Giang (born in 1987), wife of Ngo Van Soai (born in 1982) in Ngo Xa village, Chau Minh commune, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province who is the first person in Bac Giang donating organs to save others bestowed “For the People’s Health” medal by the Ministry of Health.

They got married in 2006 with 3 children. “My husband was very hard working. Apart from farm work, he learned to repair electric and water utilities as a hired job. I am a hygiene worker in the industrial zone. Hence, we can manage our living and take care of our children. Unfortunately, calamity occurs”, Giang said with tears.

According to Soai’s second brother Ngo Van Chinh, on the way to take instruments for work on 29 September morning, Soai fell down the concrete street. When he was brought to Viet Duc hospital for emergency, he was diagnosed traumatic brain injury that he might not survive.

“As being suggested by the doctors to donate organs, we felt very confused. However, after being concluded about my brother’s brain death condition, our family agreed and kept in mind that saving people to leave happiness for his children”, said Chinh

According to the Organ Transplantation Center, Viet Duc hospital, Soai’s organs have been transplanted to 4 patients including a 9-year old child suffering from terminal congestive heart failure, one liver cirrhosis patient in a coma needing dialysis and 2 kidney disease patients in need of regular dialysis. Currently, these 4 patients are well recovering to leave hospital soon.

According to Trinh Yen Binh, Vice Director of National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation (Ministry of Health), there have been only 3,600 cases of organ transplantation in the whole country since the first case in 1992, which cannot meet demands of ten thousands of needy people.

Happily, organ donation has been spreading in the community in recent years with about 20,000 registrations nationwide.
