When he was at grade 3, he felt delighted to see his father play badminton with a neighbor. Then, he became fond of badminton. His father was the person guiding him to this sport.
However, the beginning was not as easy as he thought. His left-sided hand and body were too weak to keep balance as moving causing big challenge to play badminton. Because badminton requires a lot of moves on the court, fast and strong gestures in line with brilliant eyes, it took Trung some months to practice striking shuttlecock across the net.
His fortitude and efforts made others change their perspective of him. Many people are admired at one “little but talented” Trung for his ability of playing badminton which is as good as any other athletes at his age.
The medals and certificates of merits hung on the small wall are his own pride and honour of his family as well.
This young man has worked in big C Trade Center since he graduated from high school.
“Before, I was very shy, and then I practiced badminton to improve my health and meet other people. Playing badminton helps me have many friends and become more confident. I had a lot of fun and feel the life more meaningful. Sport has changed my life. It’s my joy and motivation to make more efforts and overcome my own limitations”, said him.
Medals for great efforts
In 2009, Trung was chosen to participate the provincial Para Games and won second prize at badminton. At this competition, he was paid attention by officials of the Sports Management Division (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and invited to the provincial team to take part in some national para sport competitions.

He often practiced with his teammates for 2 months before each competition. At that time, he was the youngest badminton player of the tournament. He took his time to practice in the afternoon after work. That year, his team bagged bronze medal at the Para Games. From then to 2017, Trung consecutively won bronze medals.
Apart from his work in Big C Trade Center, Trung spends time learning knowledge of badminton and doing online business. He supplies clothes, sport shoes, racquet, shuttlecocks and badminton nets. The “Bao Trung Sport Online Shop” has had regular customers although he has just started for a short time.
He and his teammate won silver medals in 2018 and 2019 instead of bronze. These show great efforts of him and his teammate and their passion for badminton.
Trung and Pham Van Tai represented Bac Giang team to compete at 2019 National Para Games, and won silver medal.
He said he would continue practicing badminton and competing at the next tournament and strive to win the first gold medal in his career. Disability does not mean you surrender to fate nor limit yourself in inferiority – this is the message Hoang Bao Trung wants to inspire other people.
