Updated: 09:35, 07/06/2020
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a ceremony held in the northern province of Bac Giang on June 6 to send off trucks carrying harvested lychee for consumption to both domestic and foreign markets.

The event was part of this morning’s teleconference on lychee consumption in 2020.

The container trucks carried huge quantities of lychee that are expected to be exported to major international markets, including the US, Thailand and Japan, as well as being consumed on the domestic market and injected into the retail distribution system around the country.

PM Phuc’s presence at the ceremony showed the State’s and Government’s special attention to lychee growers in particular and farmers nationwide in general, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic affecting all aspects of socio-economic life.

Bac Giang currently has about 50,000 hectares of lychee and expects to harvest around 160,000 tonnes this year’s season, half of which are being exported to China. This is also the first year that Vietnam’s fresh lychees are allowed to be exported to Japan.

Earlier in the morning, the Government leader visited Uncle Ho’s fruit garden in Luc Ngan district and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his temple in the garden.
