Promoting trade connection, expanding markets for lychee
Speaking at the event, Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lai Thanh Son emphasized that right from the early days of the year, Bac Giang province has strictly followed the instruction of the Government and actively coordinated with other provinces and cities in the country in preventing and controlling Covid-19 epidemic while still focusing on manufacturing and removing difficulties to promote socio-economic development in general and lychee production and sale in particular.

To maintain the brand and ensure food safety and traceability, the province has directed maintaining an area of 28,000 hectares of lychee. In 2020, the estimated lychee output is estimated at 160,000 tonnes.
Regarding lychee sale, the province has focused on both domestic and export markets and paid attention to opening new and potential markets with high economic efficiency. In order to create favorable conditions for foreign traders, the provincial People's Committee has contacted ministries, central agencies and localities to soon carry out immigration procedures at border gates and organize quarantine locations according to regulations.
The province is aiming for a positive scenario: about 80,000 tonnes of lychee are exported, accounting for 50 percent of the output, while the rest are processed and consumed in the domestic market.
Participants discussed solutions to promote the consumption of lychee in 2020. Pham Thi Thuy Linh, Business Director of Central Retail Group in Vietnam stated that Central Retail is committed to buying six containers of lychee for sale at its supermarkets in many provinces and cities. The group will continue to export Luc Ngan lychee to Thailand. It is estimated that this year, the firm will sell about 500 tonnes of lychee, a 1.5 fold increase compared to last year.
Diao Weihong, Deputy Director of the Guangxi Department of Commerce, said that for many years, his province has always created favorable conditions for businesses to import lychee. In the coming time, it will continue to provide information related to the import of lychee in Bac Giang.

After listening to the discussions, on behalf of the provincial leaders, Le Thi Thu Hong, Permanent Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, thanked delegates for their contributions. She affirmed that the province would acquire all ideas and direct drastic settlement of issues of delegates’ concern with the motto of creating the most favorable conditions for lychee consumption.
