Tradesmen’s suggestion for lychee consumption
In 2019 season, the province has grown nearly 28,500 hectares of lychee with an estimated output of about 150,000 tonnes. The harvest time is expected from May 25 to June 10 for the early ripen lychee and from June 5 to July 5 for the main season fruit.

Typically, this year the lychee cultivation areas under VietGAP standard increased to nearly 14,000 hectares while the area grown under GlobalGAP standard reached 218 hectares in Luc Ngan district.
According to Tran Quang Tan, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, the lychee consumption was clearly divided into two orientations of export and domestic sale.
About 50 percent of the productivity is scheduled to be exported to both existing and new markets of Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Canada, Singapore and Middle East countries…
In domestic markets, the consumption will be focused at the big cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh via the commercial malls and supermarkets. This year, the province will hold more promotion activities for lychee consumption in Da Nang city to introduce the specialities to the customers in the Central region; hence the participation of enterprises and businessmen nationwide are warmly welcomed.
Pham Van Dat, representative of Saigon Co.op’s Marketing Department in charge of the Northern region shared that Saigon Co.op linked to introduce Bac Giang lychee to Ho Chi Minh city and Southern provinces in 2018 and received first positive results.
In 2019, we continue expanding the market, promoting the advantages of the supermarkets and retail systems across the nation as well as introducing Luc Ngan lychee to the stands. Besides, Saigon Co.op has ordered more lychee quantity toward export activities via foreign partners.
However, to better promoting the lychee, the province should well perform the communication and promotion to help the customers accurately distinguish the products with the signature of Luc Ngan lychee, clear and safe caring procedure so as to earn their belief.
Business woman Huynh Thi Cam Hong in My Tho city (Tien Giang province) who has rich experience in trading several fruits for years is now one of the big wholesale point of lychee in the Southern region provided remarkable recommendations.
“This year I come in person to Bac Giang province to seek further understanding and setup the local distributor. Seeing the farmers caring for the lychee, I really trust in the positive ability of market expansion and consumption increase. It is necessary to produce the disposable foam package, adhesive tape and other utensils, print the logo and image to prevent the fake or recycle for simulation purpose”, Hong said.

General Manager of Proton Company Limited Nguyen Hong Long who manages Dau Giay wholesale market in Dong Nai province informed: “Last year, the tradesmen in the market sold about 80 tonnes of Bac Giang lychee per day. This year, the consumption will be much increased so we expect the province to have effective method to ensure the traffic safety and minimise the jam toward a quick and timely transport so as to preserve the lychee quality and flavour to serve the customers”.
Discussing with the business persons, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee in Luc Ngan district Cao Van Hoan shared that the local authority instructed the farmers not to use the banned plant protection products while encouraging them to use bio product with suitable insulated time so as to recover the output decrease and improve the fruit quality.
The district also actively coordinated with the businesses and tradesmen to boost the communication about the safe lychee cultivation and help sufficiently reach to the users. Besides, the local authority has arranged the budget to print the stamp for origin traceability to put on the product package.
