Two classmates from Bac Ninh win US scholarships

BAC NINH – Two 12th-grade English majors, Phung Ngoc Ha and Dang Thuy Phuong of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, have simultaneously secured scholarships from several prestigious universities in the United States and Canada.

Competing against thousands of candidates from multiple countries and territories, Ha received offers from well-known U.S. institutions including Michigan State University, Franklin and Marshall College, and Knox College.

Notably, she was awarded a full scholarship to the New Jersey Institute of Technology, covering 100% of tuition, free dormitory accommodation and financial support of 52,000 USD per academic year.

At present, Ha is self-studying Chinese while focusing on preparations for Vietnam’s national high school graduation exams. After graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in data science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Phung Ngoc Ha plans to study in the United States, majoring in data science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, after securing a full scholarship covering 100% of tuition along with financial support of 52,000 USD per academic year. Dang Thuy Phuong intends to enroll in the public policy and public relations program at Denison University (U.S.) in August 2026 after graduating from high school, where she has been awarded a scholarship worth 62,400 USD per year.

As Ha’s classmate throughout both lower and upper secondary school, Dang Thuy Phuong has consistently strived alongside her in academic pursuits.

Phuong has long aspired to experience a new academic environment and culture in a developed country. Since grade 10, she has actively sought opportunities to secure international scholarships, dedicating significant effort to language studies.

In addition to an IELTS score of 8.0 and an SAT score of 1,500, Phuong holds an HSK5 certificate in Chinese and is currently self-studying Spanish through online platforms.

In March 2026, Phuong received admission offers from nine U.S. universities and one Canadian institution, all with attractive scholarship packages.
