Various activities held for children during Mid-Autumn Festival

Various activities have been held nationwide to care for children and help them enjoy a warm Mid-Autumn Festival this year.

On September 29, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh joined local students at the Xin Chai Ethnic Primary - Secondary Boarding School in Xin Chai Commune, Vi Xuyen District, in the northernmost province of Ha Giang, for the "Full Moon Festival" to celebrate the 2020 Mid-Autumn Festival.

She presented gifts to local students and encouraged them to overcome challenges and study well to help in the nation’s development in the future.

The vice president suggested the school to pay attention to improving the quality of education, while urging local authorities to create the best conditions for teenagers and children to develop comprehensively.

On the occasion, Vice President Thinh awarded VND30 million to the school and 200 scholarships from the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to local students.

* On the same day, the Hoa Binh Provincial Department of Education and Training and the Provincial Study Encouragement Association coordinated with Viettel Hoa Binh Branch to award scholarships under the "Fond of learning" programme for local students.

At the event, Viettel Hoa Binh presented a token for scholarships worth VND990 million to the Hoa Binh Study Encouragement Association.

* Also on September 29, the Thanh Hoa Youth Union collaborated with Muc Tim Newspaper and Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company to award the "For the future of Vietnam" scholarships to local disadvantaged students in Nong Cong District, Thanh Hoa Province.

At the ceremony, the organisers awarded 50 scholarships, totalling VND100 million to students in the districts of Nong Cong and Nhu Thanh. They also presented over 30 gifts to local female students in difficult circumstances.

* Yesterday evening, Da Nang City authorities hosted a Mid-Autumn celebration for local disadvantaged children at Hope Village – a nursing centre for children in Thanh Khe District.

At the ceremony, the organisers gave Mid-Autumn gifts to 121 children in the village. This is an activity in the series of "Mid-Autumn Festival" programmes organised for nearly 500 children in special circumstances, children of ethnic minorities and those in disadvantaged families affected by the COVID-19 epidemic in Hope Village, Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District, and Hoa Khanh Nam Ward in Lien Chieu District.

The city has decided to spend VND1.6 billion to give Mid-Autumn gifts, learning tools and nutritional products to 3,200 local disadvantaged children.

* The Vallet Scholarship Fund and the Meeting Vietnam organisation presented Vallet scholarships to outstanding students from the provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Gia Lai at a ceremony in the south-central province of Binh Dinh on September 29.

The scholarships for pupils, students, and lecturers are worth VND11 million, VND19 million, and VND29 million, respectively.

The Vallet Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by Professor Odon Vallet from France’s Sorbonne University, through the Meeting Vietnam organisation. It has been the largest non-governmental scholarship fund in Vietnam for the past two decades.

* Nguyen Trai Primary School in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi has cooperated with the Department of Education and Training of Tuan Giao District in Dien Bien Province to organise a volunteer programme under the Mid-Autumn Festival for students at Toa Tinh Primary School and Secondary Schools in Toa Tinh Commune, Tuan Giao District.

The staff and teachers at Nguyen Trai Primary School gave 500 gifts to elementary and junior high school students of the H’Mong ethnic minority and five gifts to families with extremely difficult circumstances in the area. The gifts including books, blankets, curtains, clothes, moon cakes and school supplies.

* At Kim Chung Primary School in Phieng Khoai Commune, Yen Chau District, Son La Province, the Vietnam Red Cross Society cooperated with the Red Cross agencies in Son La and Yen Chau to organise a humanitarian market, during which they awarded 30 scholarships to local students in extremely difficult circumstances, with each scholarship worth VND1 million. The Son La Red Cross gave necessities, school supplies and other goods for the Mid-Autumn Festival to students at Kim Chung Primary School.
