Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan visits and presents gifts to flood victims in Bac Giang
BAC GIANG - On September 13, Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President visited, encouraged and presented gifts to people affected by storm No. 3 in Vu Xa commune in Luc Nam district of Bac Giang province.
Due to the impact of storm No. 3, from September 7, the district experienced heavy rain and flooding. The Luc Nam River reached a flood peak of 6.72 m at 10:00 a.m. on September 9, 0.42 m above alert level 3.

Storm No. 3 caused widespread flooding, especially in 6 communes on the left bank of the Luc Nam River, including Vu Xa, Dan Hoi, Bac Lung, Huyen Son, Cuong Son, and Truong Giang.

The storm injured two local people and damaged nearly 4,000 hectares of rice, crops and nearly 3,000 hectares of planted forests. In addition, the flood aftermath caused severe damage to livestock and aquaculture with total estimated loss of more than 400 billion VND (17.2 million USD).

By the morning of September 13, all of main traffic routes were open. Sufficient electricity was supplied to drainage pumping stations while 95% of households had electricity restored. The clean water supply units were operating normally to serve the people.
Local situation is basically stable, no household lacks food, drinking water and other essential needs.

After inspecting the situation and visiting households, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan highly appreciated the proactive, positive spirit and readiness to prevent and respond to natural disasters of Bac Giang province, Luc Nam district and Vu Xa commune.
She emphasized that the weather situation is becoming more and more complicated, with many dangerous natural disasters following. Therefore, localities need to stay alert, make plans and adaptation measures when planning, implementing construction and developing infrastructure to minimize damage.

The Central leader directed local authorities to further monitor the weather situation closely, hence taking remedial measures to soon stabilize people's lives and other normal activities.
On this occasion, she presented 500 million VND to the Bac Giang Provincial Relief Fund; 100 gifts for the people of Luc Nam district, each worth 3 million VND and a gift package (20 for Vu Xa commune); 50 million VND to the Kindergarten and 10 million VND to Vu Xa Primary School.
