The southern metropolis recorded 58 cases. Of them, 47 had contact with Covid-19 patients, one is linked to the cluster at Son Ky Market in Tan Phu District, two to Binh Dien wholesale market in District 8, five related to a church cluster in Go Vap District and for the other three, the source of transmission is yet to be determined.

The south central Phu Yen Province got 18 cases who had contact with Covid-19 patients.

The Mekong Delta province of Long An that borders HCMC registered eight cases, including four linked to previously-confirmed patients, three linked to Binh Dien market. The remaining one has unclear infection source.

Bac Giang Province in the north registered four cases in areas that have been isolated.

The north central Ha Tinh Province reported three cases, with two linked to previously-confirmed patients and one with unclear transmission source.

Its neighbor Nghe An Province got two cases related to Covid-19 patients.

The case in the Mekong Delta's Tra Vinh is related to the cluster at Binh Dien market while the one in Vinh Long Province, which is also in the delta, is a woman from its neighbor Dong Thap Province and it is still unknown why she got infected.

More than two months into the new wave, Vietnam has recorded 12,788 local infections in 48 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang has the highest number of infections, at 5,667, followed by HCMC with 3,494.

Vietnam has recorded 16,136 infections ever since the pandemic started, including 14,358 community transmissions and the rest imported.

The country has administered nearly 3.5 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, fully vaccinating nearly 173,000 people with two shots.
