Vietnam names Le Hoai Trung acting foreign minister
Le Hoai Trung, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office, has been assigned by Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to serve as acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The appointment decision was announced at a ceremony at the Government Office on Aug. 30, following half a year in which Trung served as head of the Party Central Committee Office.

He replaces Bui Thanh Son, who had concurrently held the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister since August 2024. Son will now continue as Deputy Prime Minister.
Trung, 64, from Hue, holds a doctorate in law and a master’s in international law and diplomacy. He is a member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committees and the 13th Party Secretariat.
A career diplomat, Trung has served in multiple key posts, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Head of the Party’s Commission for External Relations. In February 2025, he became Chief of the Party Central Committee Office.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs manages Vietnam’s external relations, including diplomacy, borders, overseas Vietnamese affairs, international treaties and Vietnam’s missions abroad.
