The Chinese language version of ‘Noi Buon Chien Tranh’ (The Sorrow of War) novel by writer Bao Ninh.

Associate Professor Xia Lu said that she was surprised about the book from its very first page. According to her, the novel’s language is so beautiful that it fully conveys the richness, complexity and nuance of Vietnamese.

Written in a stream of consciousness style, ‘The Sorrow of War’ is a reminiscence of an infantry soldier from Hanoi about his wartime, as well as how the war forever changed his life, his country, and the people who live there.

The novel first won the Vietnam Writers’ Association Award in 1991. The writer and his novel also won the third Shim Hun Literary Award in the RoK in 2016 and the 2011 Asia Literature Award from the Nihon Keizai Shimbun in Japan, among other international honours.

It has been translated into many different languages and published in more than 20 countries worldwide.

In China, the novel has been included in the curriculum of several famous universities in Beijing and published in a number of publications, receiving great praise from Chinese writers and poets.
