14th National Assembly’s fifth session scheduled on May 21

National Assembly Secretary General, Nguyen Hanh Phuc, chaired a press conference in Hanoi on May 19 to announce the planned agenda for the fifth session of the 14th legislature slated for May 21.

The session will last 20 days, wrapping up on June 15, during which legislators will dedicate time to the supreme supervision activity as well as consider and decide on important issues including a report assessing the implementation of socio-economic development and State budget plans in 2017 and the first months of 2018, the ratification of the 2016 State budget balance, and personal work.

According to the NA General Secretary, the legislative body will continue to reform the question&answer activity at the upcoming session in the direction of increasing dialogue and face-to-face debate.

He also cited a new feature of the upcoming session,in that the NA will issue a general resolution covering all issues discussed and decided at the session.

Lawmakers will spend 12 days debating the adoption of eight draft laws and one draft resolution and consider eight other draft laws.

The eight draft laws expected to be adopted at the session include the draft Law on Denunciation (revised), Law on Special Administrative and Economic Units, Law on Measurement and Maps, Law on Competition (revised), Law on Cyber Security, Law on National Defence (revised), Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Physical Activity and Sports, and Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Planning, together with the resolution on the NA’s supervision programme and the establishment of a specialised supervision group in 2019.

Eight other bills will be tabled for discussion; the Law on Corruption Prevention (revised), Law on the People’s Public Security Force, Law on Husbandry, Law on Cultivation, Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Amnesty, Law on Marine Police, Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Education, and Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Higher Education.
