Australia supports Vietnam and other countries to access Covid-19 vaccine

The Australian Government has pledged to provide AUD500 million for countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific to access safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam announced November 6.
The purchases will be made from a range of manufacturers via the global COVAX Facility scheme, which aims to secure rapid and fair global access to Covid-19 vaccines.

The tranche of funding comes on top of the US$23.2 million already committed.
The plan will be rolled out over three years to help countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific achieve “full immunization coverage.”
The money will be used to distribute millions of Covid-19 vaccine doses to countries across the region, as well as provide technical support to local health authorities.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) is doing its best to secure a Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible.
First phase of human trials on a made-in-Vietnam Covid-19 vaccine could begin as early as this October.
Vietnam currently has four manufacturers and research agencies working on a vaccine against Covid-19, offering favourable conditions to accelerate the production of a made-in-Vietnam vaccine to proactively prevent and control the pandemic, the acting health minister has said.
Vietnam’s trial Covid-19 vaccine is expected to be ready in October next year after human trials, said the chairman of a state-owned pharmaceutical firm Wednesday.
World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative to Vietnam Kidong Park has said the Vaccine Alliance wants to invite Vietnam to join in research and production of vaccine against SARS-CoV-2.
