Mobilizing forces for sample collection and quick contact tracing

Nguyen Ngoc Son, Chairman of the Yen The district People's Committee, said that immediately after imposing lockdown on the whole district and activating 15 checkpoints on the evening of November 6, the district Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control requested taking samples of all local residents for testing. In some key areas, samples were taken may times. The district has asked the provincial Department of Health to help it with human resources to collect samples as quickly as possible.

The Department of Health mobilized 229 staff members and students to support Yen The district. The support force of the department along with 219 medical staff of the district Health Center are concentrating on taking samples of all people in the locality for testing.

Right on the night of November 6, a volunteer group of 30 students from the Faculty of Community Medicine of the Ngo Gia Tu Bac Giang College helped take samples for testing of people in Dong Tien commune - where a worker was confirmed to contract Covid-19 and transmit the virus to others.

The Hiep Hoa district Health Center has sent the largest force (62 staff members) to support Yen The district. In the past few days, the center arranged three groups to collect samples.

Ensuring safety at quarantine sites

According to the Yen The district Health Center, the number of human resources dispatched from the medical centers of Hiep Hoa, Luc Ngan, Son Dong, Luc Nam districts and hospitals such as Endocrinology Hospital, Bac Giang Mother’s and Children Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital, Lung Hosital and Oncology Hospital have basically met the testing work. The district basically completed the testing of the whole population on November 7.

To ensure the progress of screening, the provincial Center for Disease Control and the provincial General Hospital have also prioritized testing for samples taken from Yen The district. The results of all the samples were returned after 6-8 hours, with high-risk ones processed first.

As the Covid-19 cases and related people had complicated travel history and came into contact with many people, the whole district has traced 721 cases of F1 being quarantined in 19 sites. Yen The district gradually applies home quarantine for low-risk F1s, with Bo Ha township piloted first. It plans to reduce the number of people in concentrated quarantine sites and move high-risk cases to separate areas to prevent cross-infection.

The district health center has temporarily suspended regular medical examination and treatment, only accepting emergency cases to focus resources on fighting the epidemic. Currently, 76.4 percent of people in the district aged 18 and over have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine. At this time, the provincial Department of Health is increasing the amount of vaccines allocated to the locality. The district health center is focusing on both fighting the pandemic and accelerating vaccination to minimize the harms caused by the SARS-CoV-2.

Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Mai Son, who is also member of the provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and head of the Steering Command in Yen The district, said: "The Steering Committee asked Yen The district to speed up the tracing of contacts and zoning of affected areas, with focus on quick testing to master the situation and control the infection chains in the eastern communes and townships of the district."

Together with the medical force, the district has directed community Covid-19 teams in areas under quarantine and lockdown to regularly grasp people's needs for necessities to provide them with timely support.

The district Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has also assigned the district Youth Union to coordinate with the education sector to popularize and guide people to install the PC-Covid application and scan the QR code for electronic health declaration to serve testing, vaccination, and quick tracing.
