Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province Le Anh Duong and leader of provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism present certificates of merit to runners Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Tien San who won medals at SEA Games 29.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong chaired the event, which was attended by leaders of provincial departments and agencies as well as Lang Giang and Tan Yen districts where the athletes live.

Four athletes from the province – Vu Thi Trang, Nguyen Thi Sen (badminton), Pham Tien San and Nguyen Thi Oanh (track and field) competed in the SEA Games this year. Except for Nguyen Thi Trang who could not participate in the games due to her sickness, the others made every effort to win medals.

Runner Nguyen Thi Oanh bagged two golds in the women’s 1,500m and 5,000m events while Pham Tien San brought home a silver in the men's 3,000m steeplechase. The results have contributed to the success of Vietnam’s national track-and-field team, which ranked first in the SEA Games for the first time with 17 golds, 11 silvers and six bronzes.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Duong praised the athletes’ efforts in the region’s biggest sports event. Their achievements have come from the province’s proper policies to support sports and their personal efforts, he said, hoping that the athletes would keep working hard and succeed in the upcoming events, particularly the 2018 National Games.

Duong also urged them to help guide younger athletes.

He asked the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and leaders of the districts to create more favorable conditions for the athletes to prove their abilities and pay more attention to training young athletes.

He presented the provincial People’s Committee Chairman’s certificates of merit and cash awards to the athletes.
