Bac Giang increases cultural content in OCOP products to make difference

Updated: 12:14, 11/11/2022
(BGO) - In order to turn OCOP products into prestigious and branded goods for step by step participating in the national product chain, on November 10, the Bac Giang provincial People's Committee organized a seminar discussing measures to improve the quality of OCOP products.

Bac Giang now has 180 products recognized as OCOP (One Commune One Product) products of at least three stars. However, the province is facing some difficulties in implementing the programme such as limited funds and lack of new products. Especially in traditional craft villages, OCOP products are mainly in the forms of preliminary processing or simple processing with low added value.

Bac Giang strives to have about 350 OCOP products by 2030, including four 5-star ones. Therefore, at this seminar, the province wished to collect feedback to make the OCOP programme more effective.

Deputy Chief of National Coordination Office of the National Target Programme on New Rural Development Phuong Dinh Anh emphasized the need to pay attention to investing in processing and forming linkages. “This approach has been very successful in Japan and we need to learn from it,” he said.

Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Anh Duong said that the OCOP programme is a great policy of the Party and State, serving as a premise to promote the agricultural and rural economy. Through product development, the programme has created cohesion, promoted community strength, raised incomes and improved the lives of rural people, contributing to building sustainable new countryside.

He affirmed that Bac Giang boasts great potential and opportunities to develop OCOP products. Therefore, in the coming time, authorities at all levels, agencies and localities need to pay attention to increasing the number and improving the structure of products. Districts and city should develop a list of specific products, thus having clear orientations for implementation.

“Improving the quality means earning higher rankings for the OCOP products. To do this, it is necessary to further tap their cultural value. Unlike industry products, agricultural ones contain cultural and community factors. Therefore, increasing the cultural content will make OCOP products different from others," said Duong.

“In parallel with the application of advanced production, we must strictly control the quality. We should also focus on promoting the goods to dominate the domestic market and then reach out to a larger market,” he advised.

Duong also noted that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development can organize a fair of Bac Giang OCOP products to attract customers and set up links to bring them to distribution channels in industrial parks, tourist areas and rest stops. Attention will also be paid to e-commerce channels.
