The 4- lane expressway is 64 kilometer long, 25 meter wide with 2 emergency stopping lanes and has a designed speed of 100 km per hour. This expressway is included in the development plan of Hanoi- Huu Nghi expressway highway network running parallel to a strip on the existing National Highway 1A.

After being opened to traffic on 29 September, the Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway helps to reduce travel time from Hanoi to the border province of Lang Son by one hour (from 3.5 hours to 2.5 hours) compared to the National Highway 1A.

The representatives cut the ribbon to open the expressway to traffic.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung stressed, this is the artery among the 7 expressways connecting to Hanoi capital. This route is expected to ensure defense and security of the localities in the region while easing traffic congestion on the National Highway 1 and accelerating services and production development of the localities.

He highly appreciated great efforts of the investor and the People’s Committees of Bac Giang and Lang Son provinces in land clearance and construction of the expressway to finalize the project as requested by the Government and Ministry of Transport of Vietnam.

The expressway is invested 12,189 billion VND (526.5 million USD).

He required the investor, contractors, managers and the two provinces to properly carry out maintenance, environmental sanitation and ensure smooth operation of the expressway

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asked the Ministry of Transport and the investor to continue preparing for the Huu Nghi-Chi Lang and Dong Dang – Tra Linh (Cao Bang province) expressways to connect with Bac Giang - Lang Son route.
