Bac Ninh focuses on preserving landscapes to attract visitors

Updated: 15:17, 15/03/2026

BAC NINH - Tourist sites across Bac Ninh Province are stepping up efforts to protect the environment and maintain landscapes as part of a broader push to attract visitors and promote sustainable tourism.

At Suoi Mo Ecotourism Area in Nghia Phuong commune, environmental sanitation has become a routine task.

Vinh Nghiem Pagoda (Tan An ward) is one of the tourist sites attracting large numbers of visitors during the early spring season.

According to Nguyen Thi Hang, Deputy Head of the Management Board for the Suoi Mo historical relic, scenic site and protective forest, more than 40 mobile trash bins have been placed along the route from Ha Temple to Thum Thum waterfall.

The site also operates a daily public address system reminding visitors to keep the environment clean, avoid littering and refrain from lighting fires in the forest to prevent wildfires. In areas around streams and waterfalls where tourists gather, staff regularly guide and remind visitors to follow environmental protection regulations.

During the early spring season, Suoi Mo receives an average of about 2,000 visitors per day. The Management Board therefore considers increasing waste bins, strengthening sanitation teams and raising public awareness as key measures to prevent littering and maintain a clean tourism environment.

Similar efforts are underway at Tay Yen Tu Spiritual–Ecotourism Complex in Tay Yen Tu commune, where businesses are adopting a “green tourism” approach.

The site has introduced 15 electric vehicles using clean energy to transport visitors within the complex, helping reduce emissions. Operators are also gradually cutting down the use of plastic bags and switching to biodegradable alternatives, with a plan to completely eliminate plastic bags in visitor services by 2026.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Operations Director of Tay Yen Tu Services JSC, said the company has installed around 100 trash bins across the tourist area. About 20 sanitation workers are assigned to different sections to collect and sort waste daily along roads, hillsides and visitor areas.

Bac Ninh Province currently has more than 40 recognized tourist sites, including several nationally significant historical and cultural relics such as the Xuong Giang Victory Site, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda and Bo Da Pagoda.

During the spring months, when many local festivals take place, authorities intensify communication campaigns to encourage visitors to protect the environment and maintain public hygiene.

Bo Da Pagoda, recognized as a tourist site in 2019, has established two sanitation teams responsible for cleaning the pagoda grounds, public spaces, parking areas and the road leading up the mountain.

Duong Thi Hoai Thu, Director of the Public Service Center in Van Ha ward, said the unit regularly coordinates with local military and school groups to conduct weekly clean-up campaigns. Activities include clearing weeds and bushes and collecting waste such as plastic bags along forest edges.

At the same time, the relic site Management Board continues to remind visitors to maintain environmental awareness while sightseeing or paying respects. As a result, the pagoda grounds and surrounding pathways remain largely clean.

Starch-based plastic bags used at the Tay Yen Tu Spiritual–Ecotourism Complex in Tay Yen Tu commune help protect the environment.

According to Truong Quang Hai, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department in February issued instructions to localities to prepare plans for managing and organizing festivals in 2026.

These plans include defining the scale of events, assigning responsible agencies and ensuring security, order and environmental sanitation at festival venues.

However, challenges remain. At some tourist sites and festivals, littering still occurs, with plastic bags, bottles, paper boxes and sugarcane waste discarded in public areas, along roadsides or near food stalls.

With its rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and historical relics, Bac Ninh continues to attract a growing number of tourists. Authorities say preserving the environment and improving landscapes at tourist sites and festivals will remain a priority.

They also stress that raising awareness among both residents and visitors is essential, not only to protect the living environment but also to promote a positive image of Bac Ninh and its people to tourists from near and far.
