Bac Ninh lychee harvest reaches record high, focuses on long-term development

Updated: 18:52, 14/07/2025

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh province recorded a bumper lychee harvest in 2025 with production hitting an all-time high of over 210,000 tonnes, mainly concentrated in key lychee-growing communes and wards.

Thanks to systematic technical care by local farmers, yields surged this year. Although the average market price was lower than last year, orchards cultivating under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards still enjoyed higher prices, bringing satisfaction to growers.

Content creators are livestreaming direct sales from lychee orchards, offering fresh produce to consumers.

Beyond impressive output, Bac Ninh lychee continued to make its mark in demanding export markets. Early-harvest lychees from Phuc Hoa commune were shipped to Europe, Japan and the United States, all requiring strict quality and food safety standards. With stable farm-gate prices, growers felt secure investing in technical improvements.

Nguyen Van Thuan’s family in Quat Du 2 village, with over one hectare of early lychee certified for export to Europe, maintained rigorous production processes supervised by technical staff and export firms, from input materials to product testing before shipment. As a result, the fruit met food safety standards and gained strong consumer trust.

The province is implementing a new technology platform in the form of a “ledger” to transparently record the entire production process. This is seen as an important step to increase reliability and commercial value, while expanding access to global markets.

A representative of Mova Plus Joint Stock Company, an agricultural exporter to Europe, said Phuc Hoa early lychees were favoured by European consumers for their mild sweetness, balanced sugar content and longer shelf life compared to other varieties, enhancing competitiveness.

This year, the company exported over 500 tonnes to Europe at prices ranging from 300,000 to 350,000 VND (13.17 – 15.37 USD) per kilogram. The company aims to export about 2,000 tonnes of early lychee by 2030.

Faced with large harvest volumes, Bac Ninh diversified its marketing and consumption strategies in 2025. The province introduced lychees to major tourist destinations nationwide, including Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Product display booths were placed in prominent, eye-catching locations within supermarkets, creating attractive spaces for consumer experiences.

A notable highlight this year was Bac Ninh’s first-time promotion targeting enterprises in industrial parks. Many firms enthusiastically purchased lychees as gifts for workers and partners or included them in industrial meal packages.

The fruits are supplied to enterprises located in the VSIP Bac Ninh II Industrial Park.

Nguyen Van Phuc, Head of Bac Ninh Industrial Zones Authority, said the initiative received active participation from companies such as Welstory Vietnam Co. Ltd (VSIP Bac Ninh II Industrial Park), Goertek Vina Technology Co. Ltd (Nam Son – Hap Linh Industrial Park), and Foxconn Group (Dinh Tram Industrial Park). Total consumption reached over 200 tonnes. This initial success provides a foundation for future harvest seasons.

In addition, for the first time, provincial leaders joined content creators in livestreaming lychee sales. Images of officials acting as “agricultural product sellers” quickly attracted public attention, creating a positive social media effect.

Dozens of tonnes of Luc Ngan lychees were ordered through e-commerce platforms on the very first morning of the promotional event.

The programme helps bring Luc Ngan lychees closer to domestic and international consumers, demonstrating a shift in leadership mindset as local authorities embrace technology to enhance the value of their agricultural products.

Entering the 2025 lychee season with a proactive mindset, Bac Ninh is determined to further consolidate its “lychee” brand in both domestic and international markets.
