Bac Ninh meets South Korean businesses and investors

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh city recently held a meeting and dialogue with South Korean businesses and investors on to hear their concerns and discuss measures to support investment and production in the city.

The event on September 30 was attended by Nguyen Hong Thai, Central Committee member and Secretary of the Bac Ninh Municipal Party Committee; Seo Won-sam, Minister-Counsellor and Consul General of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam; Pham Hoang Son, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People's Committee.

Pham Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, said Bac Ninh currently has more than 1,165 active projects by South Korean businesses, ranking second in terms of the number of projects.

Their total registered investment exceeds 16.7 billion USD, the largest among investors from 47 countries and territories in the city.

Major South Korean investors include Samsung Electronics Vietnam, Samsung Display and Hana Micron Vina, he said.

Bac Ninh hoped South Korean investors will expand projects toward higher technology content and added value, while bringing more research and development, engineering, design, testing, automation and innovation activities to the city.

The city also called for closer links between South Korean and Vietnamese companies, including greater sharing of procurement needs, technical standards and supplier-development plans.

It also encouraged investment in workforce training, green transformation, energy efficiency, modern management and corporate social responsibility.

The municipal authorities pledged to improve the investment environment, accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen urban governance and address problems within their jurisdiction.

Issues beyond their authority will be compiled, submitted to relevant agencies and followed up until responses are received.

Businesses at the meeting openly shared difficulties affecting production and operations, as well as plans for new investment and conditions needed for their long-term development in Bac Ninh.

Participants also raised issues including guidance on workers who leave their jobs without notice, procedures for increasing registered capital and expanding factory capacity, tax, land and customs incentives, power supplies, investment promotion for South Korean companies in Vietnam, and housing for workers.

Municipal authorities provided explanations and contact points for businesses to address the issues.

Speaking at the meeting, the municipal Party Chief Nguyen Hong Thai said the city would continue to listen to businesses and direct relevant agencies to address their concerns and proposals.

For cases requiring specific documents or falling outside the city's authority, he asked relevant agencies to receive the requests and provide further guidance and handle them in line with regulations.

The meeting also announced a decision by the Chairman of the municipal People's Committee to establish a South Korean Investment Promotion and Support Task Force.
