Bac Ninh moves to finalize proposal for first-class urban status

Updated: 16:25, 27/07/2026

BAC NINH - A delegation from the Urban Development Agency under Vietnam's Ministry of Construction has conducted a field assessment to support the appraisal of a proposal recognizing Bac Ninh Province as meeting the criteria for a first-class urban area, local authorities said.

The delegation, led by Urban Development Agency Director General Tran Quoc Thai, has recently met with Vice Chairman of the Bac Ninh People's Committee Pham Van Thinh and representatives of relevant provincial departments and local authorities.

Director General of Urban Development Agency Tran Quoc Thai speaks at the meeting.

As of 2026, Bac Ninh has 25 urban areas, including three second-class cities and towns, Bac Giang, Kinh Bac and Tu Son, and 22 third-class urban areas.

A review conducted under National Assembly Standing Committee Resolution No. 111/2025/UBTVQH15 found that the province meets the criteria required for first-class urban status.

During the meeting, delegates viewed a presentation on Bac Ninh's urban development strategy toward becoming a centrally governed city.

Vice Chairman of the Bac Ninh People's Committee Pham Van Thinh expressed his appreciation for the inspection delegation's comments and recommendations.

They also discussed the proposal and urged provincial authorities to update urban development data, clarify implementation plans for the master urban plan, identify criteria that have yet to be fully met, and outline a roadmap to address the remaining requirements.

Concluding the survey, Tran Quoc Thai called on provincial agencies to incorporate feedback from the inspection team and finalize the proposal.

The inspection delegation visits the Thang Long waste-to-energy plant.

He stressed the need to verify and harmonize urban development data with other planning documents and ensure that all supporting materials are fully prepared for the formal appraisal process.

Before the working session, the delegation visited Do Temple, Manh Duc Urban Area in Tu Son Ward, the Bac Ninh surface water plant in Bong Lai Ward, the Thang Long waste-to-energy plant in Phu Lang Commune, and Danko Urban Area in Da Mai Ward.
