Bac Ninh seeks to boost lychee exports through stronger supply chains

Updated: 15:56, 29/05/2026

BAC NINH - Authorities in the northern province of Bac Ninh has recently launched a trade promotion conference aimed at expanding domestic and overseas markets for lychee and other key agricultural products, while strengthening logistics and supply-chain connectivity.

The event, held at the provincial convention center in Bac Giang Ward, gathered officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, provincial leaders, retailers, logistics firms, e-commerce platforms and Chinese trade representatives.

Vice Chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Thinh speaks at the conference.

Pham Hoang Son, Chairman of the Bac Ninh People’s Committee, and Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan attended the conference, alongside representatives from China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Thinh said the conference was part of efforts to promote Bac Ninh lychee and other local OCOP (One Commune One Product) goods, while improving market access and value chains.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan delivers remarks at the conference.

Bac Ninh has nearly 471,800 hectares of agricultural land, with lychee accounting for around 29,800 hectares, or more than 60% of the province’s fruit-growing area, Thinh said. Lychee output in 2026 is estimated at about 125,000 metric tons.

The province currently manages 243 growing-area codes covering more than 17,000 hectares to support exports to markets including China, the United States, Japan, Australia and Thailand.

Delegates visit exhibition booths showcasing and promoting Bac Ninh lychee, key agricultural products and OCOP products.

Bac Ninh is also home to 722 OCOP products rated three stars or higher, along with 56 key and specialty agricultural products with commercial potential.

Provincial authorities said they are implementing measures to ensure smooth logistics and distribution during the harvest season, including stronger cooperation with major retailers, supermarket chains and e-commerce platforms.

The provincial Vice Chairman called on central ministries to support the province in preservation technology and management of export growing-area codes, while urging Chinese authorities to facilitate faster customs clearance through “green lanes” at border gates in Pingxiang and Hekou.

Delegates cut the ribbon to launch shipments of Bac Ninh lychee for domestic consumption and export in 2026.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan praised Bac Ninh’s proactive approach to trade promotion and agricultural branding, and encouraged the province to further develop logistics services, e-commerce and deep processing to raise the value of lychee and other farm products.

Representatives from businesses, distributors and Chinese partners said Bac Ninh lychee met export market standards thanks to its quality, appearance and stable output. They also urged the province to continue investing in cold storage, post-harvest preservation and trade connectivity.

At the conference, provincial authorities announced awards for outstanding lychee orchards and a media content competition themed “Bac Ninh Lychee – Sweetness Spreading Far,” before launching a convoy transporting lychee for domestic consumption and export markets.
