Deep relationship between teacher and students in Sa Ly highland
The satellite campus in Dang area of Sa Ly primary school is located at the high hill surrounded by the forest and mountain. The children come out to play at the playground as soon as the drum is beaten for break time. Almost all of 55 students at grade 5 are children of ethnic minority families. Second grade has fewest students (only 7 ones) while third grade has 15 students. But the umber of attendants remain stable in each class.

Teacher Giap Thi Hang in charge of the first grade said 3 out of 12 students in the class live in poor families and others in near poor households. They have many difficulties in life, so the study is surely not the first priority. At the cold winter day, some students only wear clothes thinly and inadequately to the class. Acknowledging the disadvantages of highland students, the teachers always wholeheartedly dedicate to them.
In spite of many existing difficulties, all three levels of schools launched the support model “Accompanying students to the school”. In secondary school, the Administrative Board assigned the teachers in charge of class and area to help the impoverished students.
One of the case is Tran Thi Dung, student at class 7A2 in Xe village. Her mother is a worker in Viet Yen district, her father works as a porter at Chu town, Dung and younger brother usually take care of themselves and pass the spring and low water bridge to school by their own. The teachers’ visits encourage Dung to study more so as to get a good job in the future to support her family.
In Sa Ly Secondary school, the students voluntarily donate at least 1,000 VND per month, teachers donate 30,000 VND to raise the life support fund. This year, the school selected 3 students living in specially difficult circumstance to support.
In the first flag solute ceremony of the first week of a month, the school will present 3 students with 200,000 VND (8.6 USD) per student per month which is little in value but has huge meaning.
Appreciating the teachers’ emotion, the students are well behaved with consecutive effort. Particularly, Hoang Thi Ha Vi in class 7A1, whose mother suffers from kidney disease with regular treatment in provincial General Hospital, patiently practises and is assigned as class president.
Headmaster Nguyen Ngoc Quang in Sa Ly Secondary School said 206 out of 211 students in the school are ethnic people, accounting for 97.6 percent in the academic year 2019 – 2020.
Though there are many difficulties waiting ahead, the school will take great effort to promote the internal force from all officers, staff, teachers to overcome the challenges and effectively implement the policies and sources supported by the Party and State in term of facilities and equipment.
This year, the teachers and students at the school are happier when the school is recognised to meet the national standard. From the supported cost, the school has built the boarding room and canteen for the students as well as the classrooms, functional rooms and library.
