From industrial hub to Vietnam's top exporter
BAC NINH – Built on an industrial foundation strengthened over multiple development phases, Bac Ninh has emerged as a high-tech industrial hub and, for the first time, the country’s top exporter. From a leading position, the challenge is no longer the pace of growth but the quality of exports and the ability to generate greater value, making export performance a key gauge of the province’s long-term competitiveness.
The northern province of Bac Ninh has cemented its place on the global export map, driven largely by products manufactured for multinational technology groups, helping push the province's total trade to a record 182 billion USD in 2025.

According to Nguyen Van Phuc, head of the Bac Ninh Industrial Parks Authority, the period from 2021 to 2024 was one of rapid acceleration and diversification.
Bac Ninh expanded its appeal to semiconductor and technology multinationals including Amkor, Foxconn, Goertek, Hana Micron, Luxshare, Sungwoo and Victory Giant Technology, creating a strong production base for export goods.
Officials estimate that total trade for Bac Ninh from 2021 to 2025 reached about 659 billion USD, 1.76 times the value recorded in 2016–2020 and a major contributor to national export growth.
After a long process of building a solid foundation and establishing its brand among the country’s leading export provinces, Bac Ninh has entered a phase of accelerated growth.
Industrial infrastructure has also expanded: 43 of 52 planned industrial parks have been approved, and 64 of 96 industrial clusters have completed technical infrastructure and begun operation.
Nearly 3,390 foreign direct investment projects from 42 countries and territories, with registered capital of more than 46.65 billion USD, are operating in the province, concentrating on electronics, telecommunications components and semiconductors.
This advantage has not only strengthened Bac Ninh’s capacity to raise export value, but has also driven growth and expanded the scale of the provincial economy, placing it among the national leaders.
Despite a challenging market environment in 2025, provincial policies to diversify export markets and improve the business environment helped firms scale up production.
In July 2025 Bac Ninh recorded a historic monthly milestone, surpassing Ho Chi Minh City to become the country's top exporter for the first time, with monthly exports of 8.68 billion USD.
The surge continued through the end of the year, securing Bac Ninh's position as the nation's leader in export value.
| From July 2025, a historic “changing of the guard” was recorded between Bac Ninh province and Ho Chi Minh City. For the first time, Bac Ninh ranked as Vietnam’s top exporter, posting monthly export turnover of 8.68 billion USD. The momentum was sustained through the end of the year, enabling Bac Ninh to surge ahead and maintain its position as the country’s leading exporter by export value. |
Nguyen Dinh Hieu, Director of the provincial Finance Department, said the core of this rise was a deliberate push to attract investment in higher value-added electronics, sectors that make up a large share of national export value, combined with a robust recovery of global technology supply chains.
Three Samsung plants in the province (Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display and Samsung SDI) account for roughly 70% of Bac Ninh's export value.
After 17 years of operation in the province, Samsung has produced nearly 2 billion smart devices in the Galaxy ecosystem and served as a gateway for expanding AI-integrated products into Southeast Asia and Oceania.
For the full year 2025, Bac Ninh's total trade was estimated at 182 billion USD, exceeding targets and representing 20.2% of Vietnam's total trade value.
Exports were estimated at 94 billion USD, up 36.1% year on year; imports were about 88 billion USD, up 38.3%. The province recorded a trade surplus of 6 billion USD, accounting for roughly 28.3% of the country's total trade surplus of 21.2 billion USD.
