Updated: 10:57, 03/10/2018
The Prime Minister has agreed an investment plan for a project to intensify the protection of underground water in Vietnam, phase II, using non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) of the German government.

The project aims to ensure the effective and sustainable exploitation of underground water resources amidst climate change, and prevent water level decrease, saltwater intrusion and depression due to the exploitation of underground water in Mekong Delta provinces.

Its outcomes are expected to help enhance water resource management capacity in the localities, build a database of underground water in targeted areas and use the database in water resource management and policymaking.

The project also hopes to raise public awareness and strengthen coordination between specialized agencies, water managers and users in underground water conservation, while enhancing investigation, assessment, protection and management capacity of agencies involved in the project.

The project will be rolled out nationwide in four years, from 2018, with funding of more than 2.4 million USD.
