BAC GIANG- The Department of Foreign Affairs of Bac Giang province in collaboration with the Institute of Archaeology organised a seminar on December 28 to report the result of the archaeological excavations in Bang Quang pagoda, Goc Bong village, Dong Tien commune, Yen The district.

The excavated artifacts.

Although the pagoda is damaged, it is possible to identify the artifacts such as floor tile decorated with lemon flower, lotus-shaped roof tile and materials to decorate dragon shapes featuring vestiges in Tran dynasty.

The findings initially demonstrated this is the relic of a typical Buddhism pagoda in Tran dynasty (in the 18th -19th century) belonging to Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Sect. The artifacts were found matching with the pagoda places in Tran dynasty which had been discovered and researched.

It can be concluded that Truc Lam Yen Tu Buddhism developed in a large area in Bac Giang province. Some pieces of dragon head and decorations in Early Le dynasty were also found at the excavations.

The participants at the seminar stressed the found artifacts are precious materials as scientific basis for preserving, planning and promoting the historical, cultural and economic values of the locality in the future. They recommended protecting and conserving the artifacts to expand the research and request for recognition of a provincial relic site in coming time.
