NA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty pays official visit to Spain

A high-ranking delegation of National Assembly of Vietnam, led by Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty, paid a working visit to the Kingdom of Spain from September 30 to October 2.

NA Vice Chairman Ty held talks with First Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Spanish House of Representatives Alfonso Rodriguez Gomez de Celis in the capital city of Madrid on October 1.

The Spanish offical expressed his pleasure at the great achievements that Vietnam has gained over the past years, while emphasising that Spain was the first European countries to establish a strategic partnership with Vietnam and has become a cooperative partner of Vietnam in recent times.

The Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman affirmed that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Spain continues to gain positive developments, particularly since the strategic partnership towards the future was established in December 2009.

He noted that Vietnam always considers Spain as one of the important partners in the EU and wishes to enhance bilateral relations, especially in economy, trade and investment.

The two sides appreciated the two Governments’ efforts in promoting the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee in 2019 and soon organising the first session of the committee on economic, trade and investment cooperation as well as in creating favourable conditions for enterprises from the two countries to enhance the connection.

On the occasion, NA officiall Ty gave thanks to Spain for supporting Vietnam in the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021, Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) for 2019-2020, Vietnam is willing to strengthen cooperation with Spain and other countries in maintaining peace, stability and security, added the NA Vice Chairman.

In terms of parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to boost the exchange of delegations to share information and experience and promote the mutual understanding among the parliamentarians as well as to coordinate with and support each other at multilateral parliamentary forums in which Vietnam and Spain are members, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP).

Vice Chairman Ty also asked the two parliamentaries to continue to cooperate in supervising the implementation of the two governments’ cooperation deals.

During their stay in Spain, the Vietnamese NA delegation worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.

As many as 63 organisations and 206 individuals, including four Vietnamese, were honoured on July 23 in a ceremony in Tokyo for their prominent contributions to developing diplomatic ties between Japan with countries and regions.
