Over 90% of Vietnamese lychee exported to China

Vietnam exported over 83,500 tonnes of fresh lychee to China worth more than US$33.9 million in the 2018 lychee season.

According to the latest statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnamese enterprises exported more than 92,000 tonnes of both fresh and dried lychee, worth over US$40.8 million, up 172% in volume and 126% in value over the previous year.

Fresh lychee accounted for 75,000 tonnes (81.5% in volume), while dried lychee was over 17,000 tonnes.

In the 2018 season, Vietnamese lychee was present in 27 countries and territories around the world, compared to 19 countries and territories last year.

Notably, the number of lychee exports to China reached more than 83,500 tonnes, worth over US$33.9 million, up 151% in volume and 91% in value over 2017.

The fruits exported to the Chinese market accounted for 90.7% of total lychee exports this season.

Other key markets for Vietnamese lychee include Australia, Canada, Laos, the UK, Bahrain, Turkey, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
