Updated: 16:46, 27/07/2025

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh offered incense and flowers at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special National Monument on the morning of July 26, as part of his working visit to Quang Tri Province and on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to and honoured the immense sacrifices of heroic martyrs who laid down their lives during the 81-day campaign (June 28– September 16, 1972) to defend Quang Tri Town and the Quang Tri Citadel.

Their sacrifice has become a symbol of Vietnamese revolutionary heroism, inspiring compatriots and comrades to strive towards final victory in the historic Spring Offensive of 1975, leading to national reunification, peace, and independence.

*Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also visited and offered incense and flowers at the Memorial Site of General Secretary Le Duan in Trieu Phong Commune.

Situated along the banks of the Thach Han River in Hau Kien Village, Trieu Phong Commune, the memorial site marks the birthplace and formative ground of the late General Secretary Le Duan—a prominent Vietnamese revolutionary leader.

*Earlier that morning, the Prime Minister visited the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery, the final resting place of over 10,800 heroic martyrs.

Covering a total area of 13ha, the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery is one of the two largest national cemeteries in Quang Tri Province, alongside the Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery.

It commemorates 10,800 soldiers, including regular army troops, local forces, militia, and youth volunteers, who sacrificed their lives along the Road 9 battlefield and in neighbouring Laos during the resistance war against the US.

*On the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and presented gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Dao Thi Vui, aged 102, in Thuong Xa Village, Hai Lang Commune, Quang Tri Province.

*Also on the morning of July 26, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication, Education, and Mass Mobilisation laid a wreath and offered incense at the Go Cong Martyrs' Temple and attended the ceremony marking the 78th Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day in Dong Thap Province.

*The same morning, Le Minh Tri, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, visited and presented gifts to families of revolutionary contributors in Vinh Long Province on the occasion of the 78th Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day.
