Sharing with needy women

Updated: 15:48, 19/10/2020
(BGO)- Having lived with the union’s mission and become chairwoman of the women’s union of An Chau township in Son Dong district, Bac Giang province since 2012, Hoang Thi Chung (born in 1974) has been trusted by the union’s members to support the union’s activities. She has proactively mobilised involvement of many organizations and donors to help needy members.

Tran Thi Lan (born in 1975) in Ha 1 village has to manage to take care and educate her 2 children because her husband died young. Their dilapidated house faced risk of collapse at any time. In order to share with her difficulties, the township women’s union recommended the district women’s union calling for resources to help her family.

A 60 square- metre new house worth 60 million VND (2,588 USD) was completed in June 2019 after 2 months of construction. Despite the small supported amount from the township women’s union, it is like the flame to fuel kindness of several organizations and individuals in the locality.

Facing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, in April 2010 Chung advised the Standing Committee of the township women’s union to launch the “the April’s rice pot” movement to call the members to donate rice or cash to help poor women. Each member donates from 1 kilo of rice or from 5,000 to 10,000VND (0.2 to 0.4 USD). After only 1 month, the township women’s union received 1.2 tonnes of rice and 5 million VND (215 USD) to support 24 needy women who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Lunar New Year (or Tet) occasion, Chung and the township women’s union mobilise many resources to present Tet gifts and support the union’s members facing unfortunates in life.

The union maintains 15 “pig banks” with more than 1,000 participants to realize studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style. Thus, the township women’s union mobilises hundreds of blankets and several necessities each year to present needy women and children in the communes of Son Dong district and other provinces such as Ha Giang, Lang Son, Thanh Hoa and Lai Chau.

Besides, nearly 900 members in good economic condition have been mobilised to help 200 needy members with rice, seedlings, fertilizers and interest-free loans.

The great efforts of Chung and the township women’s union have been highly appreciated by senior-level women’s unions. Particularly, the township women’s union was awarded certificate of merit by Vietnam Women’s Union for the outstanding achievements in the emulation movements and fulfillment of the duties in the period from 2015 to 2019. She was also presented certificate of merit by Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee for outstanding achievements in patriotic emulation movements in 2015-2019 period.

“The An Chau township women’s union has mobilised about 2 tonnes of rice, 200 boxes of instant noodle, 10 million VND (431 USD) and other necessities to help flood-hit localities in Central Vietnam. All of the donation in cash and kind will be timely given to women facing hard conditions”, said Chung.
