Two Bac Giang students win medals at Asian Physics Olympiad

BAC GIANG - All of the eight Vietnamese students at the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) held in Malaysia have brought home medals, the Ministry of Education and Training said on June 9, including one gold medal, one silver and six bronze medals. At the 2023 edition, all of the eight participating Vietnamese students also brought home honour, with three bronze medals and four certificates of merit.

Among 8 members, there were two students at 12th Physics Class of the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted. Than The Cong won gold medal while Truong Phi Hung bagged a bronze medal.

This was Cong’s second participation in Vietnam National Team to vie for medal at AphO. At the 2023 edition, he attended this event in Mongolia and earned a bronze.

Besides, Truong Phi Hung won a silver medal at the 2023 European Physics Olympiad.

Than The Cong and Truong Phi Hung are outstanding students of the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted with many prominent achievements.

This is an annual competition for high school students under 20 years old in Asia-Pacific countries. The contest was first held in 2000 in Indonesia then alternately held in other countries in the region, each team with 8 participating members.

The 2024 APhO was held in Malaysia from June 3-10, bringing together 28 teams with 208 contestants from 27 countries and territories. The event wrapped up with 24 gold, 32 silver, 41 bronze and 31 certificates of merit awarded to outstanding contestants.
